We offer two types of finish (soon to increase to three for all models) that are all UV cured, full protection polyester finishes. This allows for less product on the instrument (versus the traditional multiple coats of lacquer) which results in a more vibrant sound. More importantly, it is safe for our Kanile`a Krew and the environment as UV cured finishes do not release VOCs (volatile organic compounds) into the air.
UV Natural
No pore fill, one full spray of Natural product. If you love the natural feel and look of wood, this is the finish for you. The process for this finish requires the least amount of product on the instrument. The result – the best sounding, full-bodied instrument you can find.
UV Silk
Pore fill, three sprays of Gloss product, sanded only, also known as Semi Gloss. You don’t care for the feel of the pores in the wood grain, but you don’t want a highly reflective surface, then this is the finish for you. It is silky to the touch, leaves no residue on the instrument and while it will enhance the color of the instrument, it will tend to bring out more of the darker colors in the wood.
UV Gloss
Pore fill, three sprays of Gloss product, sanded and buffed, also known as High Gloss. If you love oohs and aahs from passersby, this is the finish for you. The gloss creates this incredibly shiny coat andenhances the golds, oranges and reds in the wood. It also causes the curl to “pop”.
