MAOLI NŌ `Ukulele (Truly Native)
Instrument pictured is the Kanile`a Maoli Nō
Kanile‘a ‘Ukulele is committed to the preservation and reforestation of our dwindling native Hawaiian forests. To build up awareness in the ’ukulele world, the Maoli Nō (which means “truly native” in Hawaiian) was created. Made using the dead fall of endemic Hawaiian hardwoods such as ‘Iliahi (Hawaiian Sandalwood), ‘Ōhi‘a and prized curly Koa (Hawaiian Acacia), this stunning instrument speaks volumes on sound, aesthetic beauty and purpose. He ali‘i ka ‘āina, he kauā ke kanaka. “The land is chief; man is its servant.” This ‘ōlelo no‘eau (wise saying) represents Kanile‘a Ukulele’s understanding of stewardship and respect for the land our ancestors left to us. For every Maoli Nō sold, two Hawaiian endemic trees will be planted in our precious Hawaiian rainforests, a Koa and and ‘Iliahi.

The woven “low G-string” is tuned an octave lower, which gives a richer sound and opens a wider picking range.
