KĀNEʻOHE – Kanileʻa ʻUkulele is proud to support community events that support ʻukulele players in the community and worldwide.
ʻUkulele Club of Hawaiʻi (UCH)
Since 2006, Kanileʻa ʻUkulele owners Joe & Kristen Souza along with Bruddah Sam (Vaihi) and Lina Girl (Hawaiian 105 KINE-FM Radio) have hosted a community gathering of like-minded ʻukulele players in the Kāneʻohe area. After a few years of trying out different venues, they’ve found the perfect spot at Windward Mall’s center court. On the first Tuesday of each month (February-December), one can find anywhere from 80-100+ ʻukulele players of all ages tuning up and preparing for a lesson by a professional player and/or ʻukulele instructor.
Past instructors have included such ʻukulele superstars as Roy Sakuma, Craig Chee and Sarah Maisel, Aldrine Guerrero, Jody Kamisato, Cynthia Lin, Kamuela Kimokeo, Kenneth Makuakāne and more.
This year, we are expecting an amazing lineup of instructors and performers!
The year 2020 started in February with Lina Girl sharing Hawaiian language learning songs, teaching chords and hand motions as well.
Then on March 3rd, we were honored to have leo kiʻekiʻe (falsetto) singer Pōmaikaʻi Lyman share a few favorites from her esteemed grandmother, the late aunty Genoa Keawe. And there was a special treat: a drop in visit from Roman of Kolohe Kai! You just never know who’s gonna show at UCH!
There are no membership dues or fees to pay for ʻUkulele Club of Hawaiʻi. Gatherings are free and open to the public. Sheet music is sent out digitally the Monday before the club gathering. To get on the e-mail list or for more information, contact Lina at (808) 234-2868 or info@kanileaukulele
