KAMUELA KIMOKEO of Hiʻikua
singer, songwriter, entertainer, instructor, scholar
Kamuela Kimokeo is a member of the Na Hoku Hanohano award winning group Hi’ikua. He is currently the Music Program Director at Windward Community College where he teaches a variety of classes from ‘ukulele to music theory and history. He started playing music professionally with his Dad in Waikiki when he was 14 years old. He tours with the likes of Hawaiian music Hall of Famer, Jerry Santos, five time Grammy Nominee, Amy Hanaiali’i, and Raiatea Helm. He was mentored by some of Hawaii’s great musicians. As a recording artist he was part of the Grammy Nominated and Hoku award winning guitar album Slack Key Kings Vol. II where he played a solo original composition Holumoana. He also recorded and was part of the group Pilioha which was nominated for multiple Na Hoku Hanohano awards. Kamuela is not only a musician but a scholar as he is finishing up his PhD in Education (Curriculum and instruction/Music emphasis) and has had the opportunity to present his music research in national and international arenas.
